Quam tristis fuisset aestas, nisi ego cantu meo omnium animos delectare conata essem.
favourites from the eighties: T.S.O.L. - Revenge (1986 USA)
I’ve heard complaints about this album being dull cock rock. Well, it’s not exactly hardcore but I love it to bits anyway.
favourites from the eighties: New Model Army - The Ghost of Cain (1986 UK)
The early New Model Army albums are all great but The Ghost of Cain is my favourite. It got me into the band and helped me to decide to go see the band live -a good decision. I’ve always thought of this album as a turning point, a mix of the raw and more aggressive sound on the first two albums and the acoustic folk stuff.
favourites from the eighties: Fehlfarben - Monarchie und Alltag (1980 Germany)
I once heard someone compare Fehlfarben to Gang of Four. I don’t know about that but at least Fehlfarben is just as good. Monachie und Alltag is a solid mix of punk, ska influences, funkiness, depression and ‘no-future’ aesthetics. All in all, it’s an NDW cornerstone and deserves heavy rotation also outside Germany.
favourites from the eighties: Кино - Звесза по имени Солнце (1989 USSR)
(Kino - Zvezda po imeni Solntse)
Somewhat minimalistic new wave with a melancholic, distinctively North European athmosphere. Deep down, this is a great pop album. For friends of early The Cure.

The Chameleons

I love these guys.
things-we-never-did:

This is why we all love Nick Cave.
favourites from the eighties: The Chameleons - Script of the Bridge (1983 UK)
This needs no explanation whatsoever. Script of the Bridge is a deep, dreamy, hauntingly beautiful post-punk classic, a masterpiece from beginning to end. Not only is this album one of my favourites from the eighties, but also one of my all time favourites.
